Ways to organise your house move

After the exciting purchase or agreeing of contracts on your new home it can be very easy to forget about the hassle which comes with moving house, so the best advice is to make sure your organized a suitable time before the move date!

Using a moving checklist not only allows you to have a clear mind on the day of the move but also after everything is in your new home, such as what to unpack first or things that have to be done before any unpacking is even thought about.

Next is the removal of ‘rubbish’ from your current home. Nearly every homeowner has things laying around that are kept for the ‘just in case’ factor and not only will moving this into your new home be time consuming but it may clutter up places in which it doesn’t fit in the new place and may be physically unnecessary to move anyways. If you don’t use it now you won’t use it in the new home either.

Once organised your belongings need to be wrapped, boxed, marked and labeled. Make sure you collect different sized boxes for different sized belongings and are in good condition as the last thing you want is any losses or breakages on the journey. Also make sure the flaps are in good working order so they can be easily sellotaped or marked if necessary with a permanent marker. Contents, room, fragile and this side up are the most common markings for a move but you may also like to colour coordinate depending on which room it belongs (blue for kitchen etc)

Make sure you pack early and consistently, such as two or three boxes a day up until your move date as this will ensure a smooth easy stress resistant method. Also make a survival kit, yes this sounds ridiculous but who knows whether you will be able to find your toothbrush, plates, can opener or flashlight the day after the move in all those boxes.

On the day of the move after booking with the removal firms, ensure that the little ones are being well looked after by a friend or family as it will be a typical nightmare to have them around without enough attention and nothing they can help with. Or if they are too small to make a noise better leave them out of the moving process for safely reasons if anything else.
